"There's still no official word (it's expected by the end of the year), but it looks as though A123 Systems, a company based on a remarkable new battery chemistry formulated at MIT, won't be supplying the batteries for the first generation of GM's new electric car, the Volt. The contract, according to a couple of news reports released in recent weeks, will go to LG Chem, a Korean company."

This just in. Bigfoot is scheduled to be captured and photographed by years end. Or, if this does not occur, an announcement will be issued pushing out his/her capture approximately six months. Please stay tuned as something could happen at any time or perhaps it won't.

Okay, I'll play "straight man" and pretend that was a *serious* question:

1. EEStor's contract with ZENN Motors would require GM to get EESUs from ZENN, not from EEStor.

2. EEStor has not publicly demonstrated a production EESU unit, and apparently hasn't made one yet.

3. Major auto manufacturers are not in the habit of designing a production car around unproven technologies.

4. Major auto manufacturers are not in the habit of ordering massive quantities of an item from a company which hasn't demonstrated the ability to produce massive quantities of said item.

Most forum members should be able to think of more good reasons without much effort.

The previous three replies posted were "straight and serious answers"...just ask Dick Weir and Ian Clifford :).

It's November 2008...Do you know where your EESU is?

Lensman, What is the "Volt" considered..."proven technology", or you don't consider GM a major auto manufacturer?

@steve321
It's new technology based on the sum of a collection of older, proven technologies (hence them ditching A123 batteries).
Eestor is new technology, not based on any previous technology.

Maybe A123 is happy they didn't get the contract...when GM goes out of business they won't get paid.

LG Chem is simply the best choice. It is a lithium polymer battery with higher energy density and similar durability. It could even be cheaper. Several companies are beginning to realize that this technology is the current best available, such as Tata's new Indica EV.
