Indeed, that was a fascinating article! Altho not the best written... What can be an added boon for the fighters is the fact that the wave blaster requires one-tenth of the wattage required to power a car stereo, which is 600 watts to be precise, to tame the fire. Gee, I didn't know *all* car stereos use 600 watts of power. We are the 99%. A better world is possible. |

A better read was PopSci article that this one 'summarized.' There is a link to the PopSci article in the one above. Paul C in Austin

Does anyone have access to the original Darpa research report? Or is this going to have to be a FOIA thing? I think it would be interesting to read this thing first-hand, rather than reading what reporters say. |

When do I get my first ghostbusters issued Dematerializer for putting out fires? I can just see it now. Oh and don't forget to not cross the beams. In a redneck sort a way, we only have so much ass to cash that check against. |

Why am I thinking more along the lines of the firefighters in 'Fahrenheit 451'... Still pretty cool though. "Any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic." Arthur C. Clarke |

In fact, there is no standard wattage; stereo wattage varies widely. If the fire suppression system uses 60 watts, why didn't the author write "uses no more power than a typical light bulb"?
