If you are a lurker on this site and have become addicted to it like many people, one of the worst things that could happen to you is the loss of access to the site suddenly and without warning.

There are things that could happen to this website to make it impossible to get the information you so greatly desire and which generates a small pulse of endorphins when you obtain it.

It would be quite a loss if at some inopportune time...when the story takes an interesting turn....to be left out in the cold wondering what the hell is going on. Really imagine it...something extremely interesting to you suddenly emerges and then all of a sudden, you can't get into the site to read it. Scary thought, no?

for posterity... not to be confused with the posterior of your avatar.

I think what he is trying to tell us is that AHBL is nearby & he doesn't want the server to get slammed.

eestorblog - if something really big happened this site would not be the only one to carry the information.

If you are talking about the the small twists and turns like smiling LM employees and fork trucks out back of EEStor facility then requiring people to register for that will probably net you few if any new users.

Just a thought.

Cpct@OR, you don't think that there is the possibility that B might have resources beyond the reach of other blogs, or even the media? I think you are mistaken. Hail B, The Zenn Master of The EEStory. :)

First we get harbingers of spring. Now, we are asked to interpret a routine request to register on this site as a harbinger to AHBL. I sure hope so, but for the life of me, I am having a really difficult time understanding why EEstor, if it really has anything that is even a significant fraction of what has been claimed, has been utterly silent for so long. If they have what they say, there is a whole manufacturing sector that needs specs soonest so that they can begin planning production of THINGS that can use various sized EESUs. The lengthy silence has been food for the deniers for long enough. Unfortunately, the length of the silence pours fuel on the fires of doubt that haunt all of us.

What about those of use who do have a login, and are still lurkers?

So here we are, one day into the new "lurkers be damned" policy. Has there been a cascade of new registrants? An avalanche? A trickle?

I am a lurker, but not by choice. Being in school for 14hrs a day really kills your ability to keep up with the discussions.
But i've been registered for years, just for those odd times when a response is necessary.

Wow PDXpyro, 9 posts.

Anyone else got that beat? Keep in mind you reduce your chances of being the ultimate lurker by one if you post. =)

Also, I'd also like to see Lowell's query answered. Anyone bite, B?

Addicted to a blog......no way!

A poling of lurkers points to a 4x post reveal increase of traffic a real milestone. Things are moving quickly and it's in b's purview to ensure lurker saturation doesn't cause site overload and server breakdown. You might want to sign up ahead of schedule. My god, this blog is going to be the greatest blog in the world, which it will be. About nine administrator's will be working on it. Ummm, ramping up is basically taking the fork lift and dropping in the servers. It's modular approach and can be scaled at a very controlled rate. The administrators don't have time to hand pick who can log in so the site will be installing the auto pick feature Q3.

I recall when there were registration blackout periods on this site.

It's also funny that a simple request from B generates speculation about 'what does this mean?" Not everything has an exciting or nefarious ulterior motive. Some motives can be mundane and even boring.

No offense was meant on my part if that helps, and love the signature line BTW. Hope Bussard becomes a household name.

The "what does it mean" part comes from his veiled threat of taking the website private, if and when some unspecified event happens; not his request for new users.

In case you didn't notice, try logging out and click on chat. The refresh rate for lurkers has been reduced to try and keep the load down. Nothing huge, just a performance related thing... at least so far.

dont read too much into it. having people registered gives us a better handle on traffic, management things. there may at some point be a format switcheroo too. you never know.
