UPDATE: The Experiment worked well. This will be the only thread for politics permanently.

Unless you have a topic with direct relation to renewable energy, please confine your political sniping and picture posting here.

He is definitely electable, just not for President. I would not vote for Ron Paul for President.

I think it would be damn funny though if a few Ron Paul fans wind up on this site because the name Ron Paul is typed with increasing frequency.

Ron Paul, Rand Paul, or any other Paul... Gawd knows there are lots of Paul's on this site. Just because Ron Paul's last name is Paul instead of his first name, is no reason to make fun of Ron Paul or Rand Paul. In fact, I bet PaulF would get upset if we made fun of Ron Paul or Rand Paul.

Which candidate would stop subsidies ? I can only imagine Ron Paul doing so, hence he is the one who can save this country from this constant descent into fascism. Yes, I'm not afraid of saying so: fascism:

"Fascism should more properly be called corporatism because it is the merger of state and corporate power." -- Benito Mussolini

checks and balances:

The free market needs the government to exist like a child really needs his/her parent. But every now and then we get some pimply punk that is sooooo certain that the parents or government are fascist/communistic pigs. Then we suffer through pompous proclamations of freedom and mystical invisible hands like the one that recently imploded our economy.
Never forget that before we had too much government and regulations we had our libertarian/conservative wet dream. It was called the 19th century. To be sure it bred the revulsion that also spawned communism and hard core fascism.
So when are going to remember the past and stop bouncing off the walls with each generation of the stupid.
Do we want corporations and the 1% that has a majority share of the global economy to call the shots? Do we want the mob to stampede with its revolution?
Of course not.
Ron paul is wrong because he backs a failed pipe dream. The far right wing and far lleft wing also believes in previously failed fantasies. So what is left?
The boring center, with its boring quiet, pragmatic centrists. Call them Rinos, or blue dogs or whatever but they believe deeply in our Constitution without a laundry list of revisions, they believe in the free market regulated by laws that protect all Americans. They are mostly religious but prefer to keep it to themselves. They are the largest demographic on this planet but are rarely seen or heard because rhetoric is not sophisticated enough to do nuance.

My own experience in discussions with others has been enlightening. When asked about individual issues and their relative importance, a surprising number of people who vote Dem find out they are social conservatives; a surprising number of people who self-identify as libertarian support fiscal conservatism and strong national defense; and, a surprising number of conservatives are willing to put aside social-conservative-agenda issues indefinitely in order to save the Republic.

This has been described by President Obama as "bad luck".

Well, for his re-election prospects, at least.

Just sayin'.

Um... what is "surprising" about libertarians being fiscally conservative?

Speaking as a moderate small-L libertarian: We certainly are.

Somehow I doubt that is true, or even remotely close to true.

And we do have plenty of plinky punk who believed that we HAD a free market in the first place. What a f.ing joke. For example, they blame the free market for the bad banks who created CDOs and other fancy product that created a bubble in real estate (also funny these are most of the same people who were saying there wasn't any bubble in real estate while there was one starting to bubble).
But there wasn't a free market because you CANNOT have a free market without a free market money. When the government alter the prices, you get crappy shit behavior - lack of the stuff. Now, one thing where it can do a lot of damage is when the government *alter* the price of rent, the rent on money that is, which is the interest rate. This f.up the whole economy, and is one of the many reasons why we don't have a recovery but just more misery.

Meanwhile, here is an interesting product :-)

Comment from Peter Schiff on Barron's article about Ron Paul:
They point out he is the candidate of doom because who holds a lot of gold and silver mining stocks as well as gold and silver itself. Rather than congratulating for his performance, they treat him as unpatriotic LOL
(that's at 1:00 in the video)

What's the deal on Rand Paul? How did Ron Paul, whom I admire as a very smart man, get such an Idiot Son?

Also, same question, but insert 'George H.W. Bush....and George W. Bush"

I guess the above photo's are meant to ask what woman would you most like to mount. IMHO a smart political woman has nothing to do with looks, I imagine all their brains would look alike if examined but some here would vote for Barbie Doll airheads as long as she had long legs and hair. :)
To put up pictures that show some of these women in an unflattering light only shows the lack of legitimate criticism that the poster can muster. Why don't you just call all women Democrat politicians names like grandpa use to do when women had the nerve to want to vote. Get with the modern age and treat all women as equals and stop treating them like objects to be used for your own messed up purposes.
Just saying. :)

Here's an interesting place to go. Whenever I have had to write a larger chunk of software, the Powers That Be always want traceability - what requirement drove that particular thingamabob?

So, when it comes to the Fed, it might be helpful to look at what existed before. Milton Friedman wrote some about this in his excellent book "Free to Choose" (which was also a series originally shown on PBS before they completely shut out all of those running-dog-capitalist-roader types ... :-)

The Fed, as I read about it, was created to keep bank panics from crashing regional economies. That's the best summary I can come up with without writing a book myself.

So, the Fed has done a really great job. Starting with the recession after WWI, they managed to take sector-level or regional panics and turn them into full-blown recessions or depressions, over and over, while debasing the underlying currency a step at a time.

Nice work when you can get it.

Re: the pics.

It is kind of a hoot.

Actually, there are babes in Hollyweird that Mao Tse-Tung was a bit to the right of.

However, I do think that classic standards of beauty aren't anything to argue with.

Like my dad used to say, "I may be married, but I'm not dead."

And, he's a conservative.

It took me a lot of years, but so am I.
