Thank you Antiguajohn,
It is a sad set of statistics.
Distribution of wealth within developed nations and between the prosperous nations and poorer nations is a major problem.
Hopefully technology will help but what is really needed is a change in thinking and policy. There needs to be a committment to the ideal that the economy needs to serve everyone not just the rich and powerful.
I advocate that as the world's wealthiest continue to become rich beyond amy possible conceivable need or want, that we begin to extend a hand to our fellow citizens that by no fault of their own, weren't born into the right families.
EVERY man, woman and child on this earth should be given a basic level of food, shelter, clothing, education and healthcare as a fundamental human right.
The brotherhood and sisterhood of humanity needs to pull together and bring the poorest billion out of suffering.
Considering the amount of EXTRA wealth and prosperity that has no useful purpose in this world, this is the least we can do. The amount of money required to do this would not even be missed if done properly.
This is not just a left-wing, communist approach.
Anybody who does serious research into the concept of a Guaranteed Annual Income will see that it is actually more cost effective than the welfare/unemployment insurance/poverty related crime fighting/ system that most countries employ today.
There is good data for this and advocates from "conservative" side of the spectrum are now advocating it.
