Is CBD Safe to Use?

October 15, 2022

Cannabidiol, or CBD, is a compound found in cannabis that has many potential health benefits. However, due to the lack of regulation surrounding CBD products, there is some concern about their safety. Let’s take a closer look at the safety of CBD so that you can make an informed decision about whether or not it’s right for you.

CBD and THC

CBD is one of over 100 compounds found in cannabis, known as cannabinoids. Another well-known cannabinoid is tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), which is the compound responsible for the psychoactive effects of marijuana. Unlike THC, CBD does not have any psychoactive effects. This means that it will not get you high.

CBD is also non-addictive and does not interact with the body’s endocannabinoid system in the same way that THC does. The endocannabinoid system helps to regulate things like mood, appetite, and pain. THC binds to cannabinoid receptors in the brain, which explains why it can have psychoactive effects. CBD does not bind to these receptors and therefore does not have any intoxicating effects.

Benefits of Taking CBD

Despite the concerns about its safety, many people believe that CBD provides a number of benefits. These benefits include reducing anxiety and inflammation.

CBD has been shown to be an effective treatment for anxiety in human and animal studies. One study showed that CBD was able to reduce anxiety in people with a social anxiety disorder during a public speaking task. Another study found that CBD oil was effective in reducing symptoms of generalized anxiety disorder.

CBD has also been shown to be effective in treating inflammation. One study found that CBD was able to reduce inflammation in rats by inhibiting an inflammatory molecule called interleukin-6 (IL-6). Another study showed that the topical application of CBD gel was effective in reducing joint swelling and pain in rats with arthritis.

Final Words

Cannabidiol (CBD) is a compound found in cannabis that has many potential health benefits; however, due to the lack of regulation surrounding CBD products, there is some concern about their safety. Most of the research on CBD has been done on animals so far; however, it is generally considered safe to use with few side effects reported.

More research is needed before we can say for sure whether or not CBD is effective in treating medical conditions like anxiety, depression, pain, and seizures in humans; however, if you are considering trying out a CBD product, it’s always best to check with your doctor first just to be safe.
